Happy Birthday!
Today, on March 18, artist and Gnostic priest, Jan Valentin Saether turns 72! We celebrate by sharing one of the articles from the Festschrift published in his honour on his 70th birthday: "On the Legend of Simon Magus – Traces of the Magician and of Gnosis in Jan Valentin Saether's Art" by art historian Hanne Storm Ofteland.
For those interested, a hardback copy of the Festschrift, "Collisions and Transitions" can still be bought through Lulu. Read more about the book, and order your copy here! The book centres around artist, art teacher and Gnostic priest, Jan Valentin Saether. A diadem of articles, poetry and art works, set in a arc of life from the early days as an artist in Oslo in the '60s, via twenty years in Los Angeles where he started several studio schools, the Venice Painting and Sculpture Studio, and Bruchion Center for Art and Gnosis, as well as his return to and work in Oslo from the mid '90s on. A unique picture of an artistic milieu.
